I get questions through my Instagram and FaceBook pretty much every single day. I try to get back to as many as I can but with a young family and multiple businesses to run it can be difficult to stay on top of it all. So from time to time i'm going to answer questions I see time and time again on here. This way hopefully I can answer more people!
"What do you carry everyday?"
I'd like to carry my DSLR with me everyday as i'm forever missing shots or moments that could only be captured perfectly with my main setup. The truth is that it's just not possible so as they always say the best camera you have is the one with you. This in my case and the same for many others is a phone camera. That's the camera that I have with me pretty much every hour of every day.
Quite often content you see on my Instagram is captured on my phone. There's two main reasons for this. Firstly even though the shot i'm sharing is on a beautiful location where I have all of my gear, I always take backup shots on my phone as I can access them easily when I get in. The main shots or footage on my main camera gear takes longer to process or edit, something I don't always have time for on the same day. So it's more efficient when juggling the day to day of my family and getting in after a long day. Secondly because it happens to be the camera with me on those moments where I don't have my other gear!
So what phones do I use? An iPhone 6 Plus and a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The main reason I carry two phones is signal where we live. I'm constantly getting emails through but unable to reply so I carry two devices on different networks so I can get coverage in most places. I also opted for the Samsung because i've had an iPhone since they first launched and it was about time I gave Android a chance! They both take pretty decent shots considering they're phones and enable me to get B roll in certain places. These also allow me to scout locations, check weather, ensure I'm outside of a nofly zone for my drone.
Other than my phones the only other thing I carry daily is a small multitool swiss army knife for tightening my tripod/ opening packages etc.
So there you have it, not overly exciting unfortunately. Perhaps i'll do one about my main kit bag, i'll see if it comes up as a question!
